Aural & theory Intensive
Monday 24th - Thursday 27th September, 2018
4 hours for 4 days in the mid-semester break.
Group classes cover topics of scales, chords, rhythmic dictation, melodic dictation, chord progressions, figured bass, and harmonic analysis of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, as well as Berg’s Piano Sonata, Op. 1.
Classes can be booked individually, in bulk per day, or for the full 4 days.
It’s important to book beforehand to give me an idea of numbers. All classes will be held in Armadale at the Uniting Church (location below). To book your place, please see the timetable below.

A refresher for the basics. Focus on keys, written intervals and written chords.
A refresher for 2nd year Classical theory. Also suitable for advanced 1st year Classical theory students.
Covers secondary dominants.
Covers rhythmic patterns of hard difficulty.
Covers 1st and 2nd year ear training scales.
Covers shorthand approaches for dictation rhythm. Also covers rhythmic patterns of easy-medium difficulty.
Part 1. Suitable for 2nd year Classical theory students. Emphasis on applied chords and identifying keys.
Covers modulations and non-diatonic melodies. Reviews approaches to dictation.
Covers 1st and 2nd year ear training chords.
Covers identifying starting notes and metre. Also covers diatonic melodies.
Covers rhythmic patterns of medium-hard difficulty.
Part 2. Suitable for 2nd year Classical theory students. Emphasis on interpretation.
Suitable for 1st year Classical theory students. Will cover how to approach the theory test.
Covers inversions in diatonic chord progressions.
Covers approaches to chord progressions. Reviews inversion and secondary dominants.
All classes will be held at the Uniting Church Armadale.
